Leaving a Canberra winter for Jawun and Broome

On Sunday, I am leaving cold and wintry Canberra to take up a six week appointment with the Jawun program in Broome. Jawun is a program which draws on expertise from both the corporate and public sector to assist indigenous communities in establishing and developing projects to aid the community, particularly aiming to establish sustainable projects delivering lasting benefits.

To mark the start of this adventure, I decided to highlight some photos of Canberra to contrast the loveliness of the Canberra environment with the anticipated beauty of Broome.

At the moment, Broome temperatures are typically 18 overnight and 30 in the day. Canberra – well down to -7 overnight, 14 on a good day, 5 on a bad one.

The pictures are from last weekend, 8 August, at the Strathnairn gallery and Shepherd’s lookout, located on the north-western edge of Canberra, and from this morning, 13 August, at Mount Ainslie overlooking the city.

The first part of the Jawun experience will be a cultural introduction week including 4-wheel driving training and 3 nights camping out in swags in indigenous communities. This will be followed by 5 weeks project work, of which more later.

I am intending a regular update from Broome, hopefully once per week. As a starter, here is the gallery of the Canberra pictures.
